Phuhlisani and Associates research evictions in the Cape Winelands District Municipality

The Cape Winelands District Municipality has appointed Phuhlisani as the lead agency together with the Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies (PLAAS) and IR Change to design and run the above programmes in association with local stakeholders. Phuhlisani will also be working closely with the Stellenbosch Law Clinic who have been appointed to develop a legal support service for persons facing eviction.

With respect to the research and the civic education programme Phuhlisani and its Associates seeks to actively engage and involve:

  • organisations representing and providing services to farm workers and dwellers
  • employers and local farmer’s unions
  • relevant spheres of government and key departments.

We aim to ensure that the research design and findings will be robust and credible and enable all the relevant voices to be heard and practical strategies developed. Likewise the education programme should meet the needs of farm workers and drawing on existing local capacity and institutions for its delivery.
