Cape Winelands farmworker education programme focuses on sectoral determination and dismissals

The training team assembled by Phuhlisani ran five workshop sessions in parallel for more than 150 farmworkers, unionists and councillors. The team - Alex Kuhn, Boyce Williams, Eugene Liebenberg, Claud Woodman, Judith Smith-Vialva, Naomi Thomas, Douglas De Bruyn, Fred Coert, Elroy Mathys and Bukiwe Limane worked with farm workers to help them understand their labour rights as well as those of their employers.

Area Project Assistants employed by the District Municipality together with Boyce Williams had worked hard to organise participants and ensure full attendance. The workshops are helping focus attention on living and working conditions on farms at a time when economic performance in some sectors of the agricultural economy has declined.
