Investigating decentralised land governance in Botswana

Between the 21st and the 25th March a researcher from Phuhlisani was working in Botswana to interview:

  • DITSHWANELO fieldworkers
  • senior government officials in the Ministry of Lands
  • members of the Chobe Land Board
  • kgosi, land overseers and land users from Kazangula, Pandamatenga and Mabele communities which are served by the Chobe Land Board
  • researchers at the University of Botswana and other key informants.

These interviews will help shape the development of a Botswana country case study which will appear in a forthcoming workbook entitled 'Local voices in a context decentralised land governance in Southern Africa'. The workbook is aimed at land sector professionals and practitioners and will document lessons of decentralised land governance from Botswana, Madagascar and South Africa in an accessible format.
