Boyce Williams is an accredited mediator on the panel of the Land Rights Management Facility. He was tasked to investigate a long standing dispute between a farm owner and a farm occupier in the Citrusdal Picketberg area. After several days spent investigating the dispute and frank discussions with the former farm occupier, the farm owner, their legal representative and other local actors Boyce was able to reach agreement between the parties on the means to resolve the dispute and negotiate a mutually agreeable settlement agreement.
The case highlighted the complex factors which impact on relationships between farm owners, workers and occupiers which may span decades and which frequently require mediated rather court imposed solutions.
